Personal Vision
The future holds many unknowns. No matter how many plans you make or how hard you work to achieve your goals, it's likely that you’ll encounter many bumps and struggles in your path. I plan to accept this continuing on from my Highschool years. For college, I plan on focusing on UCs since the variety of classes are often larger compared to community colleges, in my experience. Once in college, I plan to focus on different classes that cover the mandatory curriculum and the fine arts. However, my main focus will be on subjects like creative writing, journalism, and english composition. I hope to obtain a bachelor's degree in at least one of those categories, if not more. I already know that I am spending more than four years in college, so taking more time to broaden my education would only benefit me in the end.
Once out of college, I will likely be exploring my options in careers that focus on creative writing. Within that category, there are many jobs that sound appealing to me. There are editors, authors, freelance writers, script writers, etc. I hope to be an author or a script writer, but I acknowledge that I need to build up skill and reputation before I can get anywhere with that. Therefore, the time spent after college will be about gaining more experience in the real world, likely focusing on magazine articles or some journaling under careful guidance. In twenty years, I’ll be about 38 years old and sitting at a desk in my own house or an office. The screen will contain an open Google Doc, filled to the brim with different words and symbols that form a plan when put together. Schedules and small plotlines will be placed in tables before being transferred over to a new document, ready for more elaboration and proper editing.
While the process of writing and editing (self-editing or having to work with an editor) can be physically and mentally taxing and doesn’t always pay well, I can foresee it being a career that I’ll enjoy in the long run. Admittedly, I juggled around with a few other career ideas that involved the legal process or the medical field before settling down on a hobby that had quickly evolved into a passion as more time passed. Writing is a good way to get information out to the public. Personal stories and fictional stories can be unique, but enjoyable ways to send out messages that open minds and hearts. It would also be a lie to say that I don’t enjoy escaping reality and delving into the fictional worlds that I create. Or that the career would give me the chance to remain flexible with where I work, so I could travel around and stay close to my family without having to worry too much about how the location will affect my work.
In the end, what really appeals to me is the opportunity to spread information and awareness about social issues that not many people may accept when taken in a traditional form. Such as a lecture or a research paper.
