Poetry Book
Poetry Book | Senior Project

Creative Writing has always been a preferred outlet for stress, depression, anger, and other negative emotions. It's also been a nice way to further explore my passion for the art of storytelling and expressing one's self in (often) nontraditional ways. As the Poet Laureate of my school, I originally saw it as a duty to take the making of the Poetry Book as my senior project. However, as I started organizing the poems, formating them correctly, editing, and creating the cover, I found actual fun in the process. I took everyone's work and laid it out for the audience to see, a beautiful collection of poems from various age groups for everyone to enjoy. A nice exercise for organization and the chance to experiment with different ways to make the whole thing appealing to my audience.

Job Interview Narrative
Job Interview Narrative | College & Career Prep
Narrative

College & Career Prep gave me many chances to think about what I wanted to do in my adult life. What I wanted to study in college, what career path I wanted to take, what options I had, etc. At the time - around Junior Year - I was heavily invested in becoming a lawyer of some kind. I was more interested in Civil Law, but my mother had a friend whose mother specialized in Family Law. Despite the different law practices, I thought it foolish to miss the opportunity to speak with her about her profession. The narrative project that our facilitator introduced only gave me a more organized way of going about the discussion. I learned about her motivations, her duties, and the true emotional turmoil that can come with working with families during their darkest hours.

Essay

The On-Demand Essay was a final project for our last unit; weeks spent listening to the podcast Serial. Serial was created by Sarah Koenig, a reporter asked to investigate the murder of Hae Min Lee. The lead suspect was her ex-boyfriend; Adnan Syed. The whole investigation took Koenig through a series of twists and turns in her attempts to uncover the truth, but the way she went about her podcast can be called into question. My essay topic was focused on these questionable practices and why they couldn't be considered the most ethical. Aside from that, it's also the first time I have ever done a timed essay, only given an hour to format, write, and edit my final piece. Once gone, there was no going back.

Junior-Year Science Fair Project
"Reducing Soil Erosion: Mushrooms vs. Plants"
Formal Report

Since attending ACLC, I had participated in six science fairs in total. While many of my projects were focused on personal interests that might yield helpful information to a specific audience, I chose to tackle a more environmentally important issue during my Junior year. Soil Erosion, as I had learned, presents many issues ranging from land destruction to economical.

Science Fairs had never been my favorite project, I always found myself wanting to push my work back when I never considered myself a procrastinator. However, Junior year was a rare time where I found myself looking forward to the planning, the research, and the experimentation. I took a real-world problem that affected hundreds of people and tried to find a way around it. It felt satisfying to learn about it even if my experiment didn't find the best solution. The fairs themselves have also helped push me to improve my research, organization, presentation, and public speaking skills.
